Super Catch Up

Wednesday was the worst day I have had in a very long time. I was so bloody sick. Something I ate? To much sea water? Who knows? Whatever it was it put me in bed the whole day with the worst stomach cramps I have had in a million years!

It was only about 5am yesterday that I started feeling better again. Just as well as I had an appointment with an iridologist at 9:30am. Got some very interesting news from the old chap. Unfortunately my liver is apparently pretty screwed. That’s not all the bad news. That’s not even close. He also suggested I changed my diet to suit my blood type according to some fleet of scientific studies. Check out the book, Bodytypes, Bloodtypes and You. I am struggling to get my hands on a copy. Rarer than rocking horse shit but I did photocopy the essential pages that I needed to get started. Bad news in there is I am Blood Type A meaning no meat whatsoever is good for me. Can you imagine me, Hoox, a veggie? I hang my head in shame! Can I even call myself South African anymore? At least I can still eat sushi! Anyone want to offer me some Type B please?

No meat

Now it’s all about the Super 14. I am sitting with Mullac in my lounge with 3 awesome games, back to back super rugby in the one of the tightest and hectic tournaments in the sport. Great fun. COME ON!

It’s now the weekend! Great weather. Great rugby ahead. Hmmmmm. Go have some fun!

Kiteboarding Part II (The Pain)

On Tuesday I had another shot at this thing called Kiteboarding. Great fun. Very tiring. I must admit I am still very nervous after my little ordeal some years ago and probably not as bold as I should be on the start. Saying that though, I did manage to get up! On the board you sick puppies!

Kiteboarding 12

Getting up is harder than it looks. Once you are up there’s so much to think about. What are your doing with your feet? Where’s the board? How’s the wind? How are you holding the bar? Where’s the kite? Do you have enough power? Do you have too much power? Are you too close to the beach? WHAM!!! Yes! Ouch!

I can’t wait for the day that it all comes naturally. Lot’s more grazes before that I’m sure.

When all is said and done I still feel like a champ in my own rights cos I got up first time in the water and on only the 3rd attempt. Now I just have to learn to stay up. Is there such a thing as Viagra for kiteboarding?

Valentines Day Poker Rally

This weekend past saw a great flying event known as the Poker Rally. Being Valentines Day I wanted to call it the “Poke Her Rally” but I didn’t get much support from the committee.

The Poker Rally is a general aviation flying event following loosely the general rules of the famous card game, Poker. Four away landings are planned and a card is issued to each participant (pilot or passenger). The 5th and final card is issued on the final landing back at base. Best hand wins.

It went off tremendously! A better turn out than expected based on the weather. Two planes never arrived for fear of rain. Admittedly, we had to make some quick changes and reroutes half way through in order to avoid the low cloud and rain. Still we managed and it was all together a very successful day with a good braai (BBQ) after the last plane was safely hangered. Many thanks to PP who helped me organise the entire shebang!

Happy Valentine’s Day

To all you lovers out there, and to all those out there who want to be lovers, happy valentine’s day for you all tomorrow. Although it is so sickly commercial these days along with Christmas and Easter, it is still a nice way to show a loved one (or just one that you fancy) that you care. Go spoil the other half tomorrow.

Happy_Valentine__s_Day_by_mjranum

Guys : Go get your girl a sexy set of delicate underwear. Trust me, it will work in your favour and be for your benefit too!
Girls : Go buy yourself a sexy set of underwear and show your man later. Trust me, it will be for your benefit too!

Hang on a sec, I should be selling sexy sets of underwear. Just take my word for it, it works! Maybe not the sneaky sneaky secret valentine cos that could just be creepy and she would want to know how you got her bra and knickers size. For the newbie’s, stick to chocolates and flowers! You can get her bra and knickers size the next morning from off your bedroom floor if all goes well.

All the best you people. Have an awesome day/night/weekend/new life!

Kitesurfing

A small move on from yesterday’s bit on Freebording, here is yet another another crazy sport that has hit South Africa by storm, Kitesurfing or Kiteboarding. Wiki, as always, has a great write-up on the sport. This is also like a merging of concepts between wakeboarding (whereby you get towed behind a boat), surfing, and power kiting (where people used to stack power kites and throw themselves into the air).

Kitesurfing 00

Kitesurfing is no new concept and I remember seeing them in Hawaii back in 2001, but the sport has subsequently grown and has become a hell of a lot safer over the years. Equipment has improved as has safety aspects on lines and power and depower “zones” to make for an incredible ride but not one where you are going to kill yourself. I tried it once a couple of years ago, let my concentration slip for a second and I was yanked 15 meters (40 ft) into the air and dumped on the beach almost resulting in me requiring a knee operation. Don’t be stupid. Get lessons!

Kitesurfing 02

This is what I am doing now. Getting lessons. When I tried it in the past my mate Mullac and I bought a kite together to learn, and I subsequently moved away to another project. He continued learning and practicing and now I have some catching up to do. Timing isn’t great though and getting the right conditions can be tricky. Although PE always has wind, it has to be the right kind of wind. Not too soft and not too strong and must be blowing across the beach in specific directions. Anything else can result in severe bodily harm or getting blown out to sea. Not good! Also my instructor is only available after 5pm as he has a real job too. Poor bastard! We have managed to squeeze in a couple of hours but I am still nervous after my last ordeal. As soon as I can get over that I am going to love it. The last lesson resulted in the kite exploding. No idea why, it just happened while sitting on the beach. I swear!. So now its getting repaired. Again.

Freebord

WOW!

         Awesome!

                         Incredible!

The list of words that I can use to describe this can go on.

The 80x is 80cm from tip to tail, making it extremely quick edge to edge. It is responsive and light, and well suited for riders from 5'6" - 5'11" in height. With the 80x expect a longer learning curve than the more stable Alpha line. The Xponent line comes with pre-drilled holes for easy binding application. All boards come with the Freebord DVD , blue 70mm Krypto wheels and skyhooks.

Cheers to Don, from JoBlog, for this. He has just purchased one! He is nuts! This is a whole new concept to board riding. Not sure why they call it “bord” though. Anyways, their choice of English is not on trial here. This is a merging of two great older concepts of skateboarding and snowboarding. So this is like snowboarding on roads… without snow! Note the 3rd wheel on each axle. This is what makes it all possible.

HECTIC. I had so many questions but the best way to answer them was to just take a look at their video online.

OK OK I WANT ONE!

But I have to be perfectly honest with you. As much as I love snowboarding, I just don’t think I have the balls of cast iron which are a strict prerequisite to do this. After watching the video I was like, “I WANT ONE!” but then reality kicked in I realised that I just don’t have what it takes in the guts and glory department. To all those out there who do have or will have one, great stuff man! You are bigger and better than I…

PE Power (less)

The Sleepy Hollow seems to be having power issues these past few days. Out of the blue and for no apparent reason, we have grid blackouts. Middle of the night and blocks switch off including street lights and traffic lights. Kind of like load shedding I guess but I thought that was scrapped ages ago.

Power Outage

You would be wasting your time (like I did) calling the municipality power department to ask why there is no power. The response I got on the other side was, “Eishhh, I donnn’t knooowww”. So I asked if there was anyone or any other department I could call that would know and the response I got on the other side was, “Eishhh, I donnn’t knooowww”. So naturally being the curious type and not wanting to quit at the first hurdle I asked to speak to her supervisor. And in direct accordance with the current state of our nation I get the response, “I AM THE SUPERVISOR!”

Click! I put the phone down!

So now I sit in darkness. Perhaps I could just open my curtains? But more importantly, my life on the internet is about to come to a screeching halt when my laptop battery dies. So long people. See you sometime soon. Hopefully before this stupid government qualifies itself to be running a country and all it’s infrastructure and not just spending tax on personal gain.

There is an old joke I heard many years ago. What did Kenya use for light before candles? Electricity. I guess Kenya and South Africa aren’t that far apart anymore. That joke could soon be told about ALL of Africa. I bet if this continent just sunk into the ocean one night, the rest of world would not miss it. Well I guess Bono from U2 would have to come up with some other crap to banter on about but besides that? Hmmmm!

Faith Like Potatoes

Last week eTV news (a local South African TV channel) did a story on the drought that is devastating the interior of the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. This drought is effecting the farmers terribly with crop, stock and land losses. They all got together to have a mass prayer meeting to ask for rains.

This is something along the lines of the story, Faith Like Potatoes. The farmer in the story, Angus Buchan, was invited along for inspiration.

Faith_Like_Potatoes01

Well, would you believe it? 3 days later, it started raining. And 2 days after that, it’s still raining. Coincidence? Miracle? Who knows. Believe what you like! Either way, the farmers inland must be extremely happy and thankful for the dripping skies!

Save South Africa – Register to vote!

People. It really is a matter of national importance that everyone gets off their ass and votes this year. And not only vote, but vote for an opposition to the ANC. It doesn’t matter if you vote COPE or DA just so long as they get good numbers in the polls.

CHECK HERE to see more information about registering. Registration is open at voting stations tomorrow, Saturday 7th Feb and Sunday 8th Feb. This is your LAST CHANCE!

Register 2009
Everyone knows the ANC is going to win. That is not the problem or the matter in question here! The problem is saving South Africa from the ANC winning by more than a  two thirds majority. As the law stands now, any political party that wins by more than two thirds majority pretty much has carte blanche (free reign) to do whatever the hell they please and that includes pushing bills through and passing laws without anyone being able to question their actions. That is called a “Single Party Sate” and that is exactly what South Africa is right now. In the last elections the ANC got their required two thirds majority and look at what they are doing! The disbandment of the Scorpions who were the only effective crime fighting organisation in this country because they dug up evidence on most of the high ranking officials in the ANC but to name just one travesty. The ANC government in power now is just a safe haven for known criminals.

Already Zuma has major control over the country. He effectively chose our current president! Look at his corruption trial farce. It’s a joke and a mockery to any justice system. He went to court this week only to have his trial postponed again until August. He will be president by then and can simply change the law to avoid any president being held accountable for anything. Not that it is much of a difference from now but any opposition party needs numbers in parliament to be effective.

Imagine this scenario. Jacob Zuma, husband to 5 wives and father of 19 children, the man who feels that because he has been circumcised, has a bar of LifeBouy soap and a shower nearby, and therefore feels that he can shag AIDS infested women (and not his wife) and not worry, is going to be our next president. God help us! He is a known communist and is supported (driven by force) by the South African Communist Party and COSATU (more communists). He declared on radio the other day that he “thinks” he knows South Africa’s constitution! THINKS???? Oh but why should he care? Anything he forgets or doesn’t agree with he can just change! That’s if he has his two thirds majority!

Zuma

Zuma2

Any South African who does not stand up and be counted on the day can shut up and cry little rivers on their own while bleating that this country is burning as it turns into the next Zimbabwe! Welcome to the South African dictatorship! His followers don’t have a clue. They are mostly uneducated unfortunate youth masses who go to his rallies to see their “Pop Star Hero”, dancing, singing Zuma. When asked what he stands for, no one can tell! Does he stand for anything? Does he know what a policy is? When he starts speaking the rally goes to sleep. To get their attention again he starts singing and dancing. Is this who we want to be ruling South Africa and to be the leader and icon for the entire African continent? This is not about black or white! It’s about a corrupt ANC having unchecked control! If you feel I am being racist then vote COPE! I don’t care. Just help the numbers in parliament! All we can do is try. If you don’t vote AGAINST the ANC then you are effectively voting FOR them! Remember that when your land gets taken from away from under you while you are still sitting on that couch your sitting on that day the rest of the country voted!

REGISTER TOMORROW AND SUNDAY!!!

It’s more important than your TV license. It’s not just the right thing to do. It’s the ONLY thing to do!

Spread the word!!! Let’s save this beautiful country! It’s one day out of your life that can secure a safer, better future for the rest of your life. This election we CAN make a change! It was proven in 1994 that people working together can save a dictating two thirds majority vote. Lets prove that it can be done again! Now is more important than ever! It’s now or never!

LETS VOTE!!!

International Rugby – Sleepy Hollow Style

So I find out last night about the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa that is planned for June and naturally being a South African (ie rugby supporter) I get all excited about this prospect. So without too much delay I dive onto my iPhone to check it out. I knew I shouldn’t get all excited!

Here’s the line up. Great for the rest of the country but what game does Port Elizabeth get? Coastal XV?? Who / what the hell are they? I am disgusted. This is going to be the opening match for ANY sport for the soon to be completed brand new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and this is how they honour it? COASTAL XV??? Give me a break!!! Bring the Springboks, bring anyone! I shake my head, again!

And look at that, the Springboks play them TWICE in Gauteng. One week in Pretoria and then the following week in Johannesburg. They are like 60km apart!!! Sux to be us here! We get NADA! Frikkin Coastal XV. Come ON!!!!!
