Officially a P.E. resident

6 10 2008

Thanks for the emails and comments of concern while I have been out of action. I am still alive. The reasons are quite simple. I have just been running around like a blue assed fly trying to get everything sorted out so that I can get on with my new life.

The drive down from Johannesburg was very long but also very uneventful. Apart from a few roadworks (which gave us time to stretch our legs anyway), it was pretty much plain sailing. There was very little traffic and besides stopping off in Bethlehem at 3am to see a mate (as you do), we made very good time. LNel, my co-pilot, was kind enough to help me carry some of my stuff from Johannesburg so he followed me to my new house. I called the estate agent and told him I was home. He brought the keys. I unlocked the house. I walked in and saw the inside of my house for the first time. AWESOME! I love it! Once everything gets settled in I will put some pics up but for now it’s still a bit bare and needs a bit of work done to it. Watch this space.

Friday night is club night (Algoa Flying Club) at the bar. As is Monday night and Wednesday night. Sometimes Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays too. There is hardly ever anything happening on a Sunday night unless there’s a special occasion (ie. a good excuse to drink!). That’s kind of what happens when alcohol in a bar is sold at very little over cost price. God bless Algoa! 8) It was great seeing old faces again and chatting about my return to P.E. and defending the slander of people declaring that this is me “Settling Down”… Since my house was still a state (piles of crap and stuff all in boxes) and I had no furniture yet it, was decided that I would stay over at LNels house. We got back to his place to a huge selection of braai meat that had been cooked up so in our drunken stupor, polished off the lot. Damn it was good!

I woke up really early on Saturday morning, went back to my house and got stuck into sorting my boxes and bags out trying to get everything in the general space that I wanted. I then went through the house again sorting out each pile as best I could. I couldn’t do everything since I was missing essentials like hangers and bags and cupboards / shelves etc. Eventually I ditched the disaster and went to go and see the best couple in the world, Mullac and NitNat. It is so damn good to see them again and what’s even better is they live less than a 60 second drive from me. They then came to see my house for a bit where it was declared, “We need to go shopping!” So we did. The whole day was spent going from store to store buying bedding, food, crockery and cutlery, dustbins and brooms and everything else you can imagine, but don’t think about, but desperately need! I didn’t manage to get everything, or should I say not even half of what I needed, but we did manage enough for me to survive for a few days. Thanks for your help you wonderful people! Saturday night we kick-started my braai (BBQ) outside in my new big back garden. It was really kewl. I had a few people around and the drinks and laughter flowed until late. My furniture still hadn’t arrived from Johannesburg so Mullac got me a mattress from his house and I went to sleep on the floor. I was adamant, I was sleeping in my own house.

I am home!

Lou - Yeah, a tornado touched down in Grahamstown. Pretty hectic. That’s quite a way from PE though but we did get really crap weather for 3 days around that time. Now the sun is shining and I am about to start a brand new day! Ciao xxx
