Cyanide and Happiness #18 – Gym

Ok so I have started Gym. I know… shock horror! Imagine how I feel. But it’s actually going ok. I don’t wake up in the morning with my body wishing it was dead. Well not yet anyway. I have been taking it easy getting into it. The biggest issue I have is the distance to gym from where I am. A 20 drive to gym takes more will power than the actual gym training!

Out Traffic

I think I almost killed myself swerving off the road with laughter the other day when I caught this beauty driving back from Centurion.

OutTraffic

 OutSurance

Where else in the world is your traffic department sponsored by a private company? Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that OutSurance does good for the city of Johannesburg with such tasks like sponsoring pointsmen at fault traffic lights and are willing to contribute towards the upkeep of our essential services like the traffic department.

My question though is, how could the essential services and essential infrastructure be allowed to deteriorate to the state they are in now? Can the traffic department really not stand on their own feet and are our traffic lights THAT screwed up that you see at least 20 intersections with OutSurance pointsmen at them directing traffic every morning on the way to work?

Minister of Transport, whoever you are cos I cannot be bothered to look you up, you should be ASHAMED, again!

What a week

I’m not kidding when I say I am pretty damn glad that this week is over. Amongst the standard trials and tribulations, or should I say, in addition to, there have been a few curve balls.

For simply a lack of a better way of describing it, the past has somewhat caught up with me in more ways than one. Some things good, some things not so good. Some things inevitable (eventually) and some things quite surprising really. The biggest surprise I think is all of it occurring at almost the same time.

Calendar

In all honesty though, looking back at the last week, I am really grateful for the good stuff and I have just simply walked on past the bad. I am just not in a place in my head to deal with unnecessary stuff. I am going down a long new challenging road and am only gaining momentum now and so I’m not prepared to let negative things get to me or slow me down. I do however appreciate the recent reunions and I look forward to maximizing on them. Chapters open. Chapters close.

All of the above happened in the midst of massive changes in the Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa. What I thought I signed up for has changed drastically in the last couple of weeks and that too came to a climax mid week which has without a doubt added ridiculous amounts of pressure to an already testing environment. There’s no point trying to detail these changes since I don’t even truly understand them and I am living them.

I have four hours left of school and then it’s weekend time. Although plans have changed, there’s still some rugby to watch and great people to meet up with. This weekend is going to be kewl! I really am enjoying being in a position to be able to say that.

Whoo Hoo! Life is grand! Pilots do it at 1 mile. Let’s fly!

SA National Lottery

In South Africa at the moment there is a radio ad running promoting the National Lottery which here they call the Lotto. I think the jackpot at the moment is about R20 Million, so I hear, which roughly converted is about £100 I presume. I digress.

LOTTO Logo

The ad seems to be running in conjunction with Woman’s Day. You can look it up on Google to prove this right or wrong. It doesn’t make a huge difference. Anyway I personally feel that the ad raises an eyebrow or two. It runs kind of along these lines:

Guy: Can I go see my friends?
Girl: Didn’t you just see them last week?
Guy: Ok well then can I please watch the rugby?
Girl: No I am watching my programs now!

Voiceover: How your life will change with R20 Million.

So this either means that because of Woman’s Day, men have to lose their backbone and become super submissive and not allowed to see the people they want? Or money makes women power hungry bitches? Or alternatively, is this the way women would prefer life with or without money? Ok, maybe not all, perhaps just a select few? Or is it just silly advertising?

This does however remind me of a joke and I call it a joke cos that is what it is.

Man: Sweetie, sweetie, pack your bags I have just won the lottery!!
Woman: Ohhhh WOW. What should I pack for? Snow? Mountains? Beach?
Man: I don’t care. Just get the fuck out!

Drink drink and be Mary, or Phil

Ok so Mary wasn’t there but Phil showed up, along with Doo & Soz. It was supposed to be a quiet Sunday lunch out in the sun in the gorgeous winter afternoon in South Africa, beating down a pleasant 28DegC, which turned into a session a little longer than expected. Africa cooks man!

Lunch was a pleasant in some pizza place next to some nursery along some long road in Johannesburg. Yeah, you know the spot! Good. I bet you now, if you have ever been there before, you never rushed back for the music. Or the food for that matter. I guess it serves me right ordering a chicken burger at a pizza joint. And as for the music, I reckon Robbie Williams wished he was dead so that he could roll in his grave at the terrible renditions of some already bad songs this dude was punishing the crowd with! But the company was great and that’s all that counts. At least they have ice cream!

After getting through mains and having our eardrums perforated by some very loud and obnoxious “music” we decided we would take our dessert elsewhere. So we went to some Irish bar next to some car dealership along the same long road in Johannesburg in search of ice cream. I’m slowly getting the hang of direction here!

“Can we have some ice cream please”
“No”
“Huh? Why”
“Cos we don’t have any”
“Huh? What do you mean you have no ice cream. How can you have no ice cream”
“Cos we are a fucking bar”
:| Ummmm Ok then. I’ll have a Spiced Gold and Coke please”

Drinks at the Irish bar were kewl and the live music was leaps and bounds better than that of the pizza joint. It’s just a pity about the lack of ice cream. Phil was a bit disappointed. Actually time flew at the Irish and soon it was time for dinner. So much for a quiet lunch. But since this place was a “fucking bar” and did not have ice cream we decided to hit the road again.

News Cafe. Awesome place! Welcome to the wonderful world of Mai Tai cocktails. Oh my God! What a way to round the day off. A Mai Tai, a chicken and bacon wrap, 2 Spiced Golds and Coke and Doo, Soz, Phil and me all having a great laugh and a joke. All’s well that ends well. It was very quickly 8pm and I still had to get back to Midrand which is quite a way from where we were. Kiss kiss hug hug and we were all on the road going in our separate directions home.

Phil called me on the way just to let me know that he is very pissed off and reminded me that we NEVER GOT ANY FUCKING ICE CREAM!

You just cant win now can you?

Avoid prosecution, join the ANC

Towards the end of last week I think I was among the masses when I sighed with relief on hearing that all the evidence against Jacob Zuma was declared admissible in court. This has nothing to do with my feelings towards Zuma himself or my belief that he is totally incapable of running a fever let alone a country. This had to do with my excitement that this country was finally showing that no one is above the law. Let justice be done.

Wrong!

Yesterday my heart sank when I read the headlines in the Saturday Star, “ZUMA WILL WALK FREE”. I thought that was quite a bold statement since the court hearing hasn’t convened  yet and is only set to start on Monday. Are these people clairvoyant? Can they see months into the future? No, all ANC defense attorneys need to do is lambaste the court with massive delay tactics and then change the law to suit themselves.

This I quote directly from the front page:

As a last resort, the ANC will consider two things: Changing the constitution to prevent a sitting president from being prosecuted and a blanket amnesty for all those involved in the controversial arms deal

Change the constitution? Change the standing laws of your country? When the only result is to protect those in power? Not a far cry from our idiot neighbour Mugabe now is it? Are we following in the early footsteps of Zimbabwe? Maybe the ANC should rename itself to Zuma PF.

Through all of this I have not even once heard them saying that he is innocent. At least try to convince the world of your innocence. Why doesn’t he go to court and stand trial? What is he afraid of? Instead Mr Dancing in the street, Living promiscuous lifestyle with AIDS ridden women and protect yourself with a shower, Corrupt law dodger, becomes the president of this amazing nation. Leaders are supposed to lead by example. If that is the case then this country is fucked! Welcome to Africa. Welcome to the Banana Republic! Sort your shit out and stop acting like a bunch of circus clowns! Even though he doesn’t say it, I would put money on it that even Nelson Mandela is ashamed of how you are carrying on!

America might be a different breed altogether and they also have their problems but they know the law and they stick to it. For God’s sake, Clinton was almost impeached for nothing more than a blowjob when all he did wrong there was suffer from extreme lack of taste or very poor eyesight. Lewinsky? Man, what were you thinking?
