World Champions - RESULT!

22 10 2007

For those who don’t know, (and by that I’m referring to all my American friends), South Africa took care of business on Saturday by smashing England into submission. A 15-6 final score is a good reflection of the true determination and sheer grit of the defense from both teams. It all went down to the kicking. If I recall correctly, both Percy and Johnnie had 100% kicks. No misses. Which meant that for once, South Africa played a tidy game and didn’t give loads of penalties away. But you all saw the game so why am I trying to give a blow by blow. GOOOO BOOOOKKKKKKKEEEEEEEE!!!!!

The game itself was nerve-wracking. I was surrounded by English. It was nail biting. A very near try that would have changed everything. What a good ref! 8)

Thanks very much to my great support that I got in the pub and back in the camp. I was getting text messages from friends and family from around the world. Basically everyone that wasn’t English was supporting South Africa. Here’s to the Albanian honourary South Africans, here’s to the Scots, Americans, French, oh to hell with it. Thanks to EVERYONE that wasn’t English. And to the English. Thanks for a great game! Thanks for a great party afterwards. Thanks for being such good losers. There were smiles all round and laughs and jokes until the pub kicked us out. Good on you chaps!

The best thing was as I commented yesterday to WG, “And yeah I take back all the nasty things I have said about Poefta Percy. I did however enjoy his spectacular Cirque du Soleil swan dive into the hugely expensive TV camera! That was brilliant! All the English were laughing and saying, “boy he has probably done himself some serious injury”. I just said, “Naaaa they build us tough in Africa”. As I said that he got up brushed himself off and shrugged at the cameraman and proceeded to almost score a try! Fan-frikkin-tastic!”. And by the way he was pushed and the pom got away with it. That’s ok! It doesn’t matter now does it?

After the game, I mean after South Africa were crowned the World Champions, me in my drunken ecstasy, shouted to the barman, “And a tequila for everyone” before counting heads. 3 bottles later and there went my porn star wages. We live and learn. Sometimes we just live. I don’t even drink tequila! I hate the stuff. What was I thinking? Obviously not a lot. The next morning reminded me why I don’t drink it. Hangover central station. All trains destined on a one way to hell!

It’s times like these that I wished I was home. To be in South Africa this weekend and to have been a part of a nation united in celebration would have been spectacular! Maybe in four years time. Until then Bokke lovers, you live it up! Have a drink or 2 for me!

haha South Africa didnt SMASH england to submission. they were lucky on the penalties. Plus if we had been given that try it coulda gone either way! percys swan dive was the highlight of the game. he should know better than to get in the way of a lion ;-)

percy was on form with the kicks (THE EASY KICKS HE HAD)

South Africa was the better side but england had heart!

SBG - Hahahaha. I agree with everything you say. I just prefer the sound of the way I said it. Ok, “smashed into submission” perhaps a bit strong. 8) You are perfectly right though. Had England been awarded that try it would have changed the entire aspect of the game. It would have also been an incorrect decision. We are just happy when Percy gets ANYTHING over. :D

BORN in UK -SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE LEFT!! (17:38:17) :

Sports betting Girl…PAAAALEASEEE shut you pie hole! You clearly lost the bet and if you hail from the UK this is the type of moaning is what the world talks about and rags you all on. We won FAIR and Square!!! Yes it wasnt the most dramatic match eva but hey thats what most finals are like! At least our whole team played the game and our country supported all our boys, instead of putting the weight of the world and World Cup glory on the shoulders of one man!! I feel very sorry for Jonny Jock-Strap and I would leave England if i was him, come live in SA Jonny you are deff pretty enough!

England doesnt know the first thing about heart…To have heart you have to be good losers (not first grade neadathols chavs who set about ruining everyones fun by starting fights…God help us for the Soccer World Cup) and not moan and ramble on and on about a try that would have made very little difference anyway!!!…(tone of the game- SCHMOAN)

Gaurenteed they will be rants and raving about me saying all this but I am a proud Saffa and we have more heart than anyone…despite what we live and go through on a daily basis…If you only knew US you would know that we won because we are the best…in every way!!

All the Poms who were clebrating with us could tell you that too!!

Fuck it’s great winning. It feels so good. Oooh ja das goedt! What feels even better is not having to deal with the poms winning. Can you imagine?! Christ, it would have been EXHAUSTING! They would have without doubt GENUINELY CONVINCED themselves that they are the greatest rugby team ever. It is GREAT to watch them. That beautifully tranquil blind naivety they exude when it comes to sport. This includes the “The Tim Henman Effect” which is carried out by the british press before every sporting event - the pre-event celebrations that effectively jinx their sides from winning - treating us to the subsequent display of utter devastation when they find themselves dropped from such a dizzy height. Stunning comedy! Even better is trying to find the rugby coverage on SKY News. What a lag. They basically mention it in passing. And on to the weather…… a slighhtly less darker cloud today, with 20 minutes of sun in Milton Keynes at lunch time.

For those of you tuning in from another dimension (we take a moment to think of The Fabrics Guy, who found himself in China for the final), South Africa won the Rugby World Cup on Saturday.

So here we are, once again, being treated to a LIVE full frontal display of emotion, courtesy of the world’s WORST losers. It’s too beautiful for words. And everywhere I look I see they’re all holding on to that moment in the game where a try was not awarded. Jesus guys, look at yourselves - the score was 6 - 15 - EVEN IF YOU GOT THE TRY IT WOULDN’T HAVE MADE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE! Not that you got the try in the first place - you just have to actually WATCH the replay for verification. Here is a quick recap:

It’s so emwarrassing! And yes, I am aware of the argument that the try would have changed the tempo of the game and the minds of the players but, you know, WHATEVER GUYS - cork it.

Guys - When all is said and done, our little genie in the lamp (Web Ellis) is back in it’s rightful spot in the display case in Ellis Park, home of South African rugby. Let’s all just kiss and make up and applaude a great tournament and focus all our aggrivation on the French hosts. Only because they are French.

Back to focusing on the next cup. Football. 2010. Or is there some cricket thrown in there in between? I never know. Im so lost and out of touch!
