Here is a very interesting article thanks to Spoonz’ exceptionally well spent time trawling the tinterweb. “Program shows CIA behind Wikipedia entries”
I think everyone at one stage or another has quoted or referenced Wikipedia. Makes you wonder where you are really getting the source of your information.
I think very few people actually know that Wikipedia is like an open book that you, the average internet user, can update and submit new articles to. It is an ever growing entity that evolved into probably the world’s most popular reference material. I remember reading an article somewhere stating that Wikipedia has by far outgrown the normal reference sources such as Encyclopedia Britannica etc.
What is very interesting is the recent study that has revealed who the largest contributors to the library are. The CIA, the British Labour Party and the Vatican. The article goes on to describe how these entities are not only updating their own information but also information of others and thus tainting the authority of such material.
“The Wikiscanner site shows the CIA has edited entries on many issues relating to the United States Government, including presidential biographies and descriptions of military operations.”

I for one love Wiki. Just the other day in a discussion it was agreed that the youth of today are SO fortunate to have a reference source like Wiki to assist with studies, projects and the likes. I use it mainly to win arguments and justify stuff I write about. There are no rules to how it can be (ab)used! 8)
