John Smeaton - Hero For Our Time

4 07 2007

From zero to hero.

For those who haven’t heard of this brave couragous man: John Smeaton is a good member of our screwed up society who puts others first, even if he is Scottish! I know, I know!

Courtesy of our good friends at Wiki:

John Smeaton is a baggage handler at Glasgow International Airport. He became involved in thwarting a would-be terrorist attack on the airport and later gave television interviews to the BBC, ITV and CNN which were broadcast worldwide.

In television interviews, Smeaton said his first thought after witnessing the attack was:
“What’s the score? I’ve got to get this sorted.”

After he saw the police grappling with one of the attackers, he thought:
“You’re nae hitting the Polis mate, there’s nae chance.”

and described his actions:
“So I ran straight towards the guy, we’re all trying to get a kick-in at him, take a boot to subdue the guy.”

Asked by ITV News what his message to terrorists was, he said
“Glasgow doesn’t accept this. That’s just Glasgow; we’ll set about ye.”

He even has his own merchandise: Check ebay! Its gonna cost you though!

Cheers: WG!
