Back in the saddle

2 07 2007

I came screaming in from Tirana at 07:00 this morning. What a good weekend. Not too much beer but a huge amount of sleep. I am even getting used to the whole idea of waking up at 4am on Monday mornings so I can be on the road for 5am. Shock horror I know! But it’s worth it. Driving through the mountain roads just as the sun is waking up is simply incredible.

(Yeeeeehhhaaaaaaa)

Saturday night was a fairly quiet one. I went out with a few locals that we know and ended up having Tirana’s best pizza at 11pm. Sadly I have lost my appetite lately so I only managed half the pizza. I know, another shock horror! Spoonz and Stoo were at the Irish but I just couldn’t face the idea of beers bigger than me. Back in the hotel room and after not too long I was fast asleep. When I woke up it was a great, hot day outside. With my aircon running full-stick it was a chore to get up. For a long time now I have been meaning to get out of town and visit Arjan and his horses that he owns. Yesterday was an awesome day for that. One phone call later and a bunch of us were heading for Tirana’s cowboy land.

Arjan owns in excess of 30 horses including a large number of thoroughbred Arabians. Beautiful beasts. He allowed us to take the saddle. It was exhilarating. It’s been a while since I rode a horse but this mare was very tame and well trained. I managed a bit of trotting and cantering in a fairly small paddock. Next up was Spoonz. He had ridden before as well so took to it easily. He was even kind enough to show us a Hollywood dismount, Jackie Chan style (Shanghai Noon).

Shanghai Noon

After a large beer we headed back into town. Spoonz left directly for Reps. Last night was a very quiet night.

Up at 4am and in the office at 7am.

It’s a new week. I have a challenge. I have to get all my shit together this week if I intend heading out on R&R this weekend. Knackers sent me an email last night asking if I could be in town for a mate’s farewell party on Saturday night. “I like deadlines. I particularly like the sound they make as they go whooshing past” – Douglas Adams. The clock is ticking. I better get tocking? (right, that sounded gay! lol)

Back in the saddle and back to the grindstone. London here I come! BOOYA!

Opps I thought you were going back to Durban!!
Excuse last comment
I am sure London is just as good, My sister told me that yesterday was officially the first day of no-smoking-anywhere in london so I am sure it will be even more enjoyable. Pubs in the summer sun are fantastic!
Enjoy and rest up!

Lily - I was hoping to get back to SA now although my time is quite limited. When I get to SA next I want to spend time all over the place and one week just wont cut it. So what Im suggesting now is go to London because the flights are convenient, cheap, its close and readily available and it’s one-stop-shopping type thing. When I get back here hopefully there wont be too much left to do so I can demobilise shortly thereafter. Then I can spend some quality time at home before the next stint where-ever that may be.
