Blocked

 no-brain.JPG

So I get into bed after an extended day at the office. I’m lying here thinking of everything that was accomplished and everything that wasn’t. Fortunately I think the list of “done” is bigger than the “not done”. But I’m not 100% sure, because you see, amongst the stuff that was not done was my mental note to self to write a list of stuff that needs doing. You keeping up? Good, that makes just you! Ummm where was I? Just today I’ve had this mental block. At first I thought it could be writers block until I convinced myself that writing a list isn’t exactly author type material so doesn’t count. I think that’s when the list stopped being an item on today’s agenda. I then get Active Directory block (shop talk) and that sends this morning into a wobble. Fortunately my boss could come to the rescue. At lunch I try and look for a magical vacation getaway for me and my lovely girlfriend and wham!!! A block! Perhaps I’m just being too fussy or perhaps I’m just getting pissed at the on-line travel companies that advertise one price until you go in and start accepting it. Hmmmm. That’s a whole nother bitching session right there! The nice thing about this afternoon was losing a satellite connection and not having to think too much. I spent the rest of the day pushing buttons and using heavy tools (real man stuff) with instructions being fed to me from Germany through my cell phone! Oh technology. So as I was saying, I couldn’t sleep and thought I should probably get up and write something on my blog to get my mind off work….

Here goes…….

What the Puk?

This here is an excerpt from our menu the other day. Bless ‘em. Our chefs do try! But how’s this for entertainment – at least 2 minutes worth.

menu2.JPG

  • Chicken and rice soup? – Does that even sound edible to anyone?

  • What the puk is Puk Puk chicken? I sure hope like hell those wings were attached to something that did go puk puk before it died. If the next time the chicken wings are not prefixed on the menu, does that mean it was open day on cats etc?

  • Mystery Potatoes – Let me assure you that there is very little you can do with a potato that will instill awe and wonder into the customer. Unless they meant: Are they burned or not? Or whether we will spell it “Potato” or “Potatoe”. Let the debate begin.

Now I don’t only criticize, credit where credit is due. That really was some of the nicest lamb I have had in a hellava long time! Hmmm with a bit of mint sauce and nice gravy and a tasty basting skin …. hmmm. Oh and the ice cream was “shit hot” (that’s a very good thing) as always!!

What can I say?

Other than….

thank-you.JPG

I think everyone will agree that the artwork on the title header is fantastic! Not only that, there are another 3 that will be circulated through time. A huge thank you to The Don for that and all his help getting this little project off the ground. Appreciate it man!

STS-121 (N.W.R.)

I find it so sad that extraordinary feats of mankind are these days overlooked and replaced with MTV, PlayStation and silly gizmo’s like Nintendog. One day I can tell my children that back in my day we used to be able to fly commercially at supersonic speeds. I remember many many years ago sitting with my big brother in front of a black and white TV watching 10 hours of a N.A.S.A. countdown just so I wouldn’t miss the most exciting event known to man. A shuttle launch. It was like all cartoons coming to life for one amazing moment. A rocket shooting into space. My parents must have loved launch day. Still today it is one of the the most powerful, intense, auxillirating acts of engineering brilliance but ask a teenager when last they saw a shuttle take off. “A what?”. But I bet they could tell you all the bad news about failures because thats all the press mentions.

Here is their chance! Tell every kid you know, its happening again. After almost exactly a year of groundtime, another rocketship full of humans is about to shoot into space.

As the weather would have it, N.A.S.A has experienced a few days delay on the launch of STS-121 Discovery mission set to include 2 space walks. Go check out the website for all details of launch times and live launch coverage. How kewl would it be for the folks who were already planning a great 4th July, American Independance Day party in Orlando, Florida?? Awesome!

GO LAUNCH!

I dunno. Maybe it’s just me trying to relive my youth. I’m not due for a midlife crisis for at least another 9 years. Am I?

News Worth Reporting (N.W.R.)

All throughout the world there are 100′s if not 1000′s of newspapers, TV news channels, talk shows, radio broadcasts and internet news sites. Most of them covering war and bloodshed, lies and deception, back stabbing and affairs, takeovers and world domination… and thats just the political channels. Every once in a while, there is news that, in my my simple little opinion, I deem “News Worth Reporting”. So, starting today, when I see something deserving of that asteemed title, I will put it in here. And whats more derserving than a good, well rounded sports story?

This woman is streaks ahead

Lisa Lewis Streak Lisa Lewis Struck

“New Zealand bikini streaker Lisa Lewis will be visiting South Africa in the next few months, as a guest of the Southern Spears Rugby Union.

She achieved instant celebrity status when she ran onto the field during a Test match between the All Blacks and Ireland in Australia. Lewis sold her bikini for around R17 000 on eBay, and has even had to acquire a manager, Brendan Hol-werder.

“We decided she was the perfect person as she has become well-known for her antics and she could add some fun and entertainment to the show,” said McKeever.

He said Lewis’s diary will be full as they have lined up other events for her.

“She will take part in a series of events which included attending game farms, breakfasts and dinners with the Spears”.” – www.int.iol.co.za

Say it…?

Some things are better left unsaid… Or so they say. What about freedom of speech? So what are you supposed to do with all these crazy or daring things you think all day? Sometimes its better to let them out to explore the surroundings, get a feel for the situation, poke & prod and I guess sometimes its not.

Last night for instance, would have been a very bad time to be sitting in a pub in England and say out loud: “GO PORTUGAL!”, “kicked out AGAIN?”, “by Portugal AGAIN?”, “in a penalty shootout AGAIN?”, “just like the European Championship huh?”. Ohhhh remember 66! Yeah, some things are better left unsaid. That would have turned into freedom to get the shit kicked out of you. You probably would have got away with: “How’s that ref’s mind?”, “Beckham just cant keep up anymore” and “Rooney is a prick”.

Now we cant even talk about Brazil either after having their dreams nailed in a coffin by the French??. What a day for WC2006 yesterday. Jees who am I trying to convince here. I dont give a rats ass about Brazil or the World Cup. Last night was a prime example of the excitement of the “Beautiful Game”. 125 minutes (incl injury and extra time) and not one single point scored. 0-0. Then it goes down to fluke penalties and it’s all over in 5 minutes. And people have the nerve to call cricket boring. Ok, cricket can be boring but you get my point Im sure.

At least now that England’s attempt at football world domination is over, they can get back to what they are good at, drinking ale, whinging about the ref and reminiscing over 1966.

Some things are better left unsaid…
